Hello the forum. I have been lurking quite a while, love this place. I will be starting my 1973 Starcraft Mariner project after a long delay.
I have not seen any reference to Sea Hawk "Alumahawk" paint being used but perhaps I missed it. Has anyone used this product and can comment? Thanks in advance.

Well I did a search for posts on the Alumahawk paint and turned up a few. Disturbing to note the one user with the failure to cure issue. I'm hoping that was an isolated incident and not the norm. I have a can on order and am hoping for warm enough weather to get started soon.
Here is a pic of my tin.

Dave, concerning the report you read about the curing/drying issue . . . .

there are several situations that will prevent any coating from drying/curing properly:
temperature
humidity
contaminated surfaces
incompatible thinner
incompatible primer
painting at 70 degrees then the temp drops to 45* 4 hours later
improperly mixing two-part components
appling coating thicker than the manufacturers suggestion.
and probably many more

read, understand and follow the instructions on the label
of all products you may use. Observe all safety precautions,
and you will have satisfactory results.

Just because your weather is warm when you apply the coating,
and the temps drop below 50* within the next 8 hours, you could
experience the tacky, uncured finish.
70* degrees for a consistant 12 hours should give you a good drying time.
looking forward to your painting project !!

I have been considering the Sea Hawk two-part epoxy primer for my next project.
But finding any sort of usage data is hard.

Enjoy your posts Johnny. I will wait until the weather delivers more consistent temps before painting and work on other stuff until then. Glad you mentioned it. We are going to get some nice 70 degree days here next week but overnight lows in the 40's which is just the kind of cure killer you describe. I will post results of the rebuild as I go along.
