My first time using the 3M Bristle Disk in a 4" angle grinder.
it removes paint very quickly without melting and gumming up.
much more efficient and faster than the standard rotary wire brush.
very impressed with it.

SAFETY WARNING
the bristles break off and they HURT when hitting bare skin !!!!
can only imagine what it would do to the naked eye.
gloves and safety glasses must be worn while using this item.
do not let bystanders stand too close - they too could suffer eye damage.

I am thinking that grinding into sharp corners or across edges of metal
facilitates the breaking bristles. it doesn't matter what causes it,
just observe the necessary safety precautions to prevent injury.

the eye you save could be your own !!!

UPDATE: wow - very disappointed in this product after using it
this afternoon. . . . . only used it on the boat bottom flat surfaces and
within 7 feet on one side only, the bristles wore down to 1/4" and when
the bristles break off, the pain goes right through gloves and pants.
at $25.00 for one disk - this is the most expensive method for removing paint.
I am guessing it would take at least another 6-8 disks to remove 5 layers of paint.
it may be fine for one coat of paint - or sprucing up bare aluminum.
it starts off with amazing results !!! then goes down hill rapidly after 5 minutes of use.
I will be using paint remover and the random orbit sander to finish the job.

LOL Paps, yeah, most of the time I am asleep at the helm !!!
I bought the Bristle Disks a few months ago to do my Crestliner with
and just now have the time and energy to git-r-done.

ah so !! yes, the lower RPMs would definately work better.
I am using the 4.5" disc that is designed for the angle grinder (@$25 a pop).
the disc is rated at 12,000 RPMs and my grinder spins at 11,000 RPMs.
so in my mind - everything should work longer than experienced.

I tried the 3M Roloc Bristle Disc which goes in a drill or pneumatic die grinder
my 40 year old angle drill only spins at 1200 RPMs - the ROLOC is rated for 15,000 RPMs.

so it is not working all that well for me. I will try the pneumatic die grinder tomorrow.
I am not going for the total refurbish - just get the loose paint off and paint it !!
I guess there is a learning curve here that I have not caught on yet. (as usual).

Any of the strippers work well however they do not get everything from around edges and rivets.....hence what this post is all about.
As far as stripper goes, I went into a Sherwin-Williams store and got a paint stripper from them that was SOY based. Great stripper and did not strip the skin off of you as well as the paint! That in itself was well worth it.
