fellas,
I want to paint my aluminum boat and i'm looking for suggestions on what paint to use on a aluminum boat.
Just want to paint it white, nothing fancy. Just spruce it up a little!
Thanks for any info!
Craig

There are many options but it doesn't get much cheaper or simpler than a basic rustoleum paint job. Which is what I am currently doing with my boat. https://www.forum.tinboats.net/viewtopic.php?t=42660

First question: are you painting just the outside hull or the interior also ??
Photos of your concerns will help the gallery help you.

Craig - I agree with the Rust-Oleum...... your Big Box Store
has several shades in their new " TOPSIDE " brand.
spray - brush - roll or roll and tip.
wash with a good degreaser then follow up with a TSP wash.
remove any loose and scaling paint - lightly sand or scuff the areas
to be painted.

This boat was painted with the basic Rust-Oleum white and stop sign red.
it is currently in the shop to be refurbished..... I have painted the bottom
Rust-Oleum " Topside Oyster " color and I like that better than white.
good luck in your project.

Thanks fellas!
The thing i'm most worry about is adhesion. I definitely don't want to have to redo it later on.
I will be spraying it on.
I'll do a little research on it.

I have a compressor and spray gun. I'm actually a bodyman but I have NO experience with aluminum at all. None.

Craig - good deal that you have the auto-body experience !!
there is no difference in prep and painting from steel to aluminum.
as you probably know - the solvent and reducer that you use for the paint
must be compatible with the primer or else it will creep and crawl.
if you want to keep it simple (and cheap) - you could go with DTM (Direct To Metal)
urethane enamel which goes over bare metal as well as painted surfaces with no issues.

again - photos of your project will help the gallery help you

I've got a 1982 16' BassTracker. It's a project, but one i'm more than willing to take on. It needs all new interior, wiring, ect.
It's got a 50hp Mercury on it and a 35lbs trolling motor. It's all just bare aluminum right now, but I want to add a little color to it and make it my own.
I've got it pretty much all stripped down to a bare hull. So i'm almost to the point of pulling the hull of the trailer and flipping it over to seal up some pop rivits and paint it. Probably within the next couple of weeks. (due to weather)
I'll try to post some pics of it.
