Friends:

Working on a 16' StarCraft project. One of the issues I am confronted with is the design of a potential trolling bar to be installed somewhere near or over the transom. I'd like to put downriggers on it, and have at least 4 rod holders. And it probably needs to be removable (for when I am not trolling, or need the rear area for casting and don't need the clutter). Have you tacked this problem?

Please post pictures: they speak a thousand words!

Thanks!

LDUBS posted his very slick method for mounting a downrigger bracket.
if this is something you are looking for, you can modify the design to
bolt directly to the hull or transom if you do not have a deck or bench seat
for the bottom leg (as per photo).

These conduit canopy fittings are the ultimate Tinkertoy for building things like that:

Fittings like these can slide on the cross bar and be positioned at any angle:

Here's on that made from a 3" aluminum channel. It's bolted down on each side. I'm guessing that you could make it removable.IMG_0566.JPG
