I need to replace quite a few rivets in my project boat.. I'll be using brazer head solid rivets, but I am confused about what grade to use.. I was hoping to hear from someone that has experience with solid rivets..

Looked it up, 1100F is the alloy of rivets used on tin boats.

In all my searching I found lots of questions but could only find hints at which grade rivet to use.. Looks like every time someone asks a question about rivets, it starts an argument over solid vs pop,.. And no one ever answers the question.. I'M GOING SOLID.. Since mine are smooth head I guessed that they were 1100F, but that was a guess.. I was just about to place an order for them when I figured I'd ask, and hope I didn't start something.. Where did you get your info??

Thank you for the reply.. Stan

Starcraft told me to use 1100F rivets, as 1000 series rivets are 'softer' than the 5000 series hull alloy. You want the rivet softer as THEY are the wear-stress-replaceable item ... NOT the hull. In use, over time, you'd want to replace a rivet, not the boat ...

This is a well-known engineering practice in the design and construction of riveted items, e.g., camping trailer, aircraft frames and our beloved tin boats.

Makes perfect sense to me.. The fact they failed in the first place would speak to that maybe.. I feel better now..:D
