I decided that I was done with the faded, cracked and chipped paint on the bow deck of my 1961 AceCraft. So tonight after supper I went out to my shop. I removed the windshield, cleats, bow light and fishfinder mount. Then I began stripping the paint off using 80 grit on my orbital sander. After two hours I quit for the night. I have almost half stripped. I will have it repainted by Monday night.

looks good so far.

what kind of bow handle do you have ?
I have made some reproduction bow handles for the vintage Crestliner
that would look great on your bow and be functional as well.
the front leg is just short enough to sit on top of the bow cap.
they are cast aluminum - not chromed.

What paint and primer will you be using?
I have some Sikkens base coat in a Navistar blue metallic.
I will use Limco 4200 Clear Coat.
I will be using Southern Polyurethanes Inc. epoxy primer
The paint and primer is left over from another paint job that I did a while back.
After I finish stripping the paint off using 80 grit then I will smooth the roughness somewhat using 120 grit with my orbital sander.
Going to spray two wet coats of epoxy primer and if it remains dirt free I will apply the colour and clear coat without sanding the epoxy

The boat never came with a bow handle.
Your pictured bow handle looks very nice.
Good job.

Awesome project! I stripped and painted my old Starcraft this summer. Used chemical stripper and then the sander. Sprayed Rustoleum self-etching primer on the bare aluminum, then I rolled-on enamel with hardener added. The stripping/sanding was by far the slowest/toughest part of the whole process.

I haven't done my topside/bow paint. That's next.

Here's some pictures of the process. https://djcamera.com/boatpaint/

You did a fine job on your boat.
I'm taking a vacation week between Christmas and New Years to repaint the hull.

I finished stripping the paint off, masked the boat off with plastic and applied two wet coats of epoxy primer.
Tomorrow I will sand the epoxy primer and apply paint

Just updating
The blue paint that I had been saving had passed it expiry date is what I'm guessing. It never dried. So I washed all the paint off using thinners. Then I spent this last week going through my paint chip books looking for a blue that I think will be better suited for the old boat.
So today I will be applying Matrix base coat paint colour 1973 Corvette medium blue iridescent WA4069

And it is finished. I'll let it sit for a week before I reinstall the hardware and windshield.
I used Limco LC4200 clear coat with Limco LH415 activator.
Later during the winter I will repaint the hull white

IMG_0928.JPGIMG_0935.JPGUPDATE
Once I finished the deck the rest was so tired looking that I decided to that now rather than wait for winter.
So I stripped, epoxy primed and painted the hull white
I used PPG Delfleet Essential polyurethane factory pack white
Now to put all the hardware back on

Finally the boat is finished.
I would paint one part and then the piece nearest to it looked bad. So then I would paint that piece.
I bought new carpet. Laid it out, cut it to fit and then the inside looked bad. Painted the inside then glued down the carpet.
But it is now finished
