One important thing about trested wood once you cut it, its no longer treated.
You have to treat the cut section yourself.

But if your going to use it as a frame then it should be ok, just treat the cuts, although I'd sill treat the lot with Creosote myself.
 
For me its a weight issue. Treated wood is heavy. You need the least weight possible.

I just went with 1/8 aluminum sheet.

For the pedestal -- How far back as you want it. Its more of a support verse comfort level. Pedestal is a lever and magnifies stress.
