Hey y'all thanks for the add. I am currently attempting to fix my 17ft Duracraft aluminum boat and have hit some hurdles I don't know exactly how to start fixing them.

First I have removed the motor and stripped all of the old fiberglass and paint. Underneath there was some pretty bad pitting and the wood is pretty rotten and missing where the holes are.

I have absolutely zero ideas of how to fix this transom. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Looks like it’s going to need some surgery. Hard to say with pictures but welding a piece of aluminum plate on the outside may be an option if there is enough good aluminum to weld to. Or after wood has been replaced, a plate can be bolted thru with sealant in between.

This is one I did. Bolted and sealed. Honestly, I’d enlist the help of a local welding shop.

My dad has a thicker piece of aluminum that he thinks we can just weld to the back but I really don't want to temp repair again I want to get rid of all the rotted wood. If I were to cut out the middle section pitting it back on won't weaken the integrity of the hull?

Try a zip disc on a grinder and cut that transom cap off. Be able to replace the horizontal piece of wood. With any luck, the vertical pieces will be accessible from the top as well. If not, more
Cutting.
