If you have a small aluminum boat chances are you have a small outboard motor.

Here is a very simple motor stand made from a walker. You can pick these up for next to nothing at garage sales.

I actually got this one for nothing at the side of the road marked "Free".

Try to find one with wheels, makes it easier to push around the garage.

You can slip a 5 gallon bucket of water under the motor and have a nice test stand.

Also note the battery sitting under the trolling motor.

I hate large, heavy, deep cycle batteries. They are a pain to lift in and out of the boat.

This little battery is the kind found in motorized wheel chairs. They usually use a pair of them.

I got this battery when I bought a motorized golf "pull" cart. This battery will move a full set of clubs over 27 holes of hilly golf.

With one of the small vintage trolling motors it will move you quietly around the lily pads when you are fishing.
