I have a 01 1648 seaark. It is rated for a 30hp. My buddy has a 2017 1648 seaark. It is rated for a 40hp. The boats are **** near identical. The only difference is my center beach is riveted and his is welded. Why would his be rated higher then mine? Thanks!

I'd ask SeaArk. Not uncommon for boat standards and methods to change, along with technology, i.e., riveted vs. welded. Could also be a heavier gauge plate in there too, even though the design looks to be the same.

I have a princecraft that is the same way - rated 10 HP less than an otherwise identical version. Mine is rated for 33 HP in Canada, and I have a 35 in the US, which I've been told is okay.

Maybe the higher HP rating is more likely to pound and shake rivets loose?
