seat base? steel or aluminum

Does aluminum or steel matter for seat bases on aluminum boat? If I get a threaded version can I use a regular pin style in it as well? Just looking at the 7x7 bases.
 
If aluminum is available that's what i would use, if you are using it in salt water, i would try to find stainless steel, if aluminum is not available.
