My black motor slowly starts turning gray from the water. What is the best way to clean this?

CLR.
Use CLR to remove all water spots, rinse well, then use a good marine wax. Then buy some "boat bling hot sauce". It smells like vinegar and wax. My 2013 mercury looks like new each time I wipe it down with the hot sauce. I also use micro fiber towels.
