Just got a lightly used Mercury 60/40 Jet for my 16’ Express. It has a 21” transom and I will have to raise the motor up to the lowest mounting hole to get the intake at the correct level.

I have to seal and cover the two mounting holes from the previous motor, and account for the small lip on the top edge of the transom.
i purchase this mounting plate and was planning to use 5200 sealant around the old holes, as well as the new bolt shanks.

My concerns are around these two pages on the Mercury Installation manual.
1) it says to make sure the mount is flush to the transom and not to rest on the edge/lip (like I have)
And
2) the other page says NOT to use a plate or wedge between the motor and transom. So how the heck am I supposed to abide by both suggestions? Or just ignore it and install as shown in pic1?
**FWIW, I asked the plate manufacturer and they didn’t really have an a opinion in regards to the Mercury install.

Your images aren't working for me, it may require a google account which I don't have. My motor is mounted up at the 2nd to last hole so that isn't really an issue and I also have wedges which I needed to reduce the porpoising. I'm guessing that the Mercury mounting information is to cover their butt. See if you can upload your pictures to the post directly by using the attachments option down below.

Here’s another try at adding the pics from the first post

You should be fine if you plan on using the plate or wedges. Most of the newer boats with the Yamaha 60/40 jets actually use the CMC riser brackets to lift the motor even higher due to the long shaft. My guess is they think their could be a chance of the bolts vibrating loose with a wedge or plate between the transom and motor bracket. I'm going on 6 years with my setup with the wedges and no sign of any problems.

I thought it seemed odd that you can't put a plate on to even things out. I would think most alum boats are going to have a transom cap that might get in the way. Maybe most are short enough to not be an issue. IDK.

I don't have a Merc, but just out of curiosity I took a look at my boat. Here is a pic.
