Today they said it is OK to wear a mask to the store. I wouldn't recommend wearing one to the bank however . . .

Here is what we have been making:

Not using hair ties or double side tape.

I am using furnace filter media N=?

I used a pc of 14 gage copper wire, ends bent to snag around the nose fabric - this is key
to getting it to seal.

Good luck everyone!

A bunch of folks in our town have been making masks and delivering them to the local hospitals. They aren't for use with covid-19 patients. Apparently the hospitals are happy to get them. I read where they take about 45 minutes each to make.

I also read that cut up vacuum cleaner bags apparently do a pretty good job (95% effective) filtering 1 micron cooties. Of course the virus is much smaller than a micron, but even for sub-micron virus sized things the vacuum bag material is 86% effective. Compared to a cotton t-shirt at about 50%. Info is from tests conducted by Cambridge Univ. And, BTW, even the common dishtowel can filter out almost 75% of sub-micron particles.

Yea I intended to use vac bag as filter but then I read that it has too much restriction, so the air just goes around it.
I had a spare furnace filter & dissected it for the media. When I breath thru the mask it collapses a little so I think it is doing something.
Everyone stay safe!

A mask information article in the ATLANTIC. Seems on point.
Be safe.

I saw it mentioned about using the blue shop towels as filters.
One thing that I have noticed with people wearing masks, if they aren't worn properly, and don't seal, they might as well not be wearing anything and offer little to no protection.
