Original wood was no good.

Two layers of 5/8" exterior plywood sealed with deck sealer. After using deck sealer I would recommend epoxy thinned with acetone for a longer lasting product. This just sits on top of the wood like paint. Deck sealer might be ok if you have one of those mini wooden pad transoms that are easy to access. I had to take the back seats apart and cut some welds to get this transom in. It'll still last a while but definitely not another 40 years. I put 5 layers on either side and like 7 or 8 along the edges.

Installed. All bolt holes were sealed with 5200 in and out. WD-40 on a rag is a good way to get it off but you need to do it before it cures. I got some on the transom but I don't really mind.

Should be fun with a 50/35 hung on the back.

Slapped the ol' reliable 15 horse Johnson on it while the 50 is in the shop getting a tune up. The shaft is too short for the transom but she still manages to get up on plane before aeration starts diminishing thrust at about 1/2 throttle. A little more than 1/3 throttle is all it takes to plane out with good weight distribution. With the 15 hung on it the draft is about 2" at the deepest point. I launched it without the plug by accident and when I hopped in it was floating so high up that the drain plug hole was completely out of the water, at least until I was standing in the stern to put the plug in. Even then water wasn't rushing in.

Got the bench seat back together and a temporary step on the bow. I also painted some aluminum rectangles black to match the transom. The handles on the stern are bolted through the transom and these. I think adding a foredeck that is just about flush with the sides is next. Gotta add some hatches for the anchor, tackle box/shotgun shells and maybe even a big hatch in the middle of the bow for the fuel tank. Gotta keep the weight distribution correct with that heavy 50.
