I'm trying to figure out a model year for an Alumacraft F6 I just bought, in order to initiate Wisconsin registration. The serial number is F6-20953 and my best guesses so far are somewhere in 1960 to 1963. It was last renewed in Minnesota back in 1988 and the Minnesota DNR is tight-lipped about what details they have on it. I called Alumacraft- they forwarded me to a local dealer; the local dealer appeared to not know that HINs didn't formally exist in the sixties. Left another message with Alumacraft, we'll see if they get back to me.

Is there any tribal wisdom on Serial Number ranges for the F6 here?

Did you check the link from the sticky on the Boats main page? Sooooooooo many miss this index ... or the other sticky posts for good, general info.

This index: https://forum.tinboats.net/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=47496 takes you to the one below.

NOTE - One had to look for 'Alumacraft' under fiberglass boats whereas they made BOTH plastic and classic (tin) craft:

Looks to be a 1962 vintage model?

Thanks for the pointer. I had run across that link before finally finding the serial number, and hadn't gone back to cross reference. Are you basing 1961 on something other than F6? I see on that table they made F6's in 1962 also. Do you know what the "Code" column refers to in those tables?

At any rate, this means that the 1963 5.5hp Johnson outboard I brought back from the dead this summer will be a good period match for the boat.

On further reflection, that table lists 1961 as having a 16" transom height and the 1962 as having a 15" transom height. I just measured my transom at 16" from top to bottom of boat (with another 1" or so of keel in addition) so assuming the table is correct, 1961 it is.
