Hello to everyone I just want to start out saying that this is a great forum that you have here.
I am kicking around the idea of buying a jon boat, Ive been eyeballing the 15fter at academy and just turning it in to a lil bass rig. My biggest question tho before buying a jon boat and changing it over is, Im a big guy im 265lb and like to stand up and fish. Now will there be enough stability in the boat for me to do that after adding a front and rear deck to it? I guess thats the biggest thing that Im hung up on. There are a few lakes around the house that a jon boat would work perfect on. Thanks for any info.

Thanks for joining!

The boat from Acadamy is a 1542 Alumacraft. If you deck the front you should still be able to stand and fish. Are you planning on buying a trailer? Is it going to be an electric only boat or are you planning on an outboard. Weight distribution is a key factor.

Thanks for the welcome!
I would like to hang a motor on it. I think its rated for a 25hp correct if im wrong, add tm seats carpeted floor the whole nine. I havent pulled the trigger on it yet cause Im kind of skeptical on how it would function with me bouncing around on the front deck. It would be for me and my wife to get out for the day. Thanks for all the reply backs

I'm not familiar with Academy, but I'm guessing they're a boat retailer? You might consider buying used, it's somewhat a "buyers market" because of the hardships many are being forced into. You could probably find a boat, motor, and trailer for less that the cost of just a new jon. Now, if you can afford to get everything new, and that's your preference, then by all means do it.....and buy as big (especially width) as you can afford.
