I've seen carpet used for the liner - but carpet and hooks don't mix.

I think I would use vinyl flooring of some type - there's a ton of different kinds out there

It isn't so much the carpet and hooks as the problem, but the carpet and moisture. If you arrange your lids in such a way that water can't get in and you store in a garage, or covered well, you shouldn't have a problem. But, if you are like me, where your lids drain into the hatch, and you don't stored in a garage, and sometimes leave it uncovered, you will have moisture issues. Do you know how many weeks it takes carpet inside a hatch to dry? Neither do I, but we are going on 6.... :roll:
 
I was thinking about trying to undermount some rubber maid bins for the storage hatches. But for the rod locker I can't think of anything long enough.
