Bought this boat last week, and have been trying to get an answer as to what it actually is the entire time. Scouring the internet. Asking folks on boating and aluminum boat forums... and no one has an answer. I'm stumped, completely and utterly exhausted every resource I can imagine.

Certainly someone, somewhere can identify it - and hopefully the folks here at Tinboats can be the ones to show their expertise.

Registration claims it's a 1961 Chris Craft - which it obviously isn't.

14' aluminum closed bow runabout, 1961 Johnson Super Seahorse 40HP

No capacity plate or any mark identifying manufacturer anywhere to be found. Only markings found so far are two small stamped plates which were originally attached to the inside side of the transom that read

M 45-12230-P

and

F-12425

Please Ged let someone be able to help me.

Welcome arborgman!

I've been following your thread over at Michigan Sportsman. I wish I could help ya. That is a sexy little runabout. I hope someone here can ID it.

As soon as you findout its not a Chris Craft, you're going to sell it to me, right?

Chris

Brothas from anotha! I have been spending as much time here as I do over at m-s.com!

You came to the right spot then! I've been lurking over here for a long time now. I don't have a boat big enough to deck out, but I still like seeing what these guys do with their boats over here. Lot's of great ideas!

I go buy ibthetrout on m-s.com.

How about a picture as an attachment for those of us that have some time to kill at work on a rainy Friday and a corporate firewall that blocks photobucket?

Thanks Russ but those are still hosted at Photobucket and show up as nothing but a red X for me. :(

If I found out it was christ Craft I probably would sell it, because it'd be worth enough to fund buying an even nicer boat...

A little more info.

Seats are (obviously) not original. Based on the brackets existing on the gunwales it appears to have originally had two, forward facing, bench style seats. You can see the brackets for the rear seat in this photo.

Possibly a Duratech?

img236145646555ef330.jpg

Maybe not that exact model but it looks really close to several that I just saw pictures of.

Arborgman,

I found this while trying to help find the make of your boat. Check out the rear gunnel caps and the steering wheel. I can't be certain but it looks close.

My original thought was a Duratech - a Duratech Marlin in particular, but the folks at duratechboats.com said:

"The first thing I can positively confirm...this is not a Duratech. Dash, nose, hardware, gunwales and more give that away."

Yep... that is one of the ones I've been considering -

The closest things I've seen so far are:

That particular Alumacraft (gunwale caps look close, gunwales look close, steering wheel is right, rub rail around inside of gunwales)

A Crestliner. I've seen pictures of a number of Crestliners with very similar hull shapes, and it has no rivets above the splash rail - which matches the Crestliner "Invisible Riveting" that came out in the early 1960's.

The problem is that every picture I've seen that looks close (Duratech Marlin, that Alumacraft, Crestliner Falcon) also has significant differences.

Duratech Marlin - https://www.duratechboats.com/pb/wp_f1bdb4da/images/img1584146eb269e61c57.jpg

Nose cap, gunwales, dash, etc. wrong.

Alumacraft ??? - https://www.shareaproject.com/fullImages/4399.jpg

No deck seam, dash looks different.

Crestliner Falcon - https://www.retrocrestliner.com/1960%20crestliner/1960%20page11%20voyager%2015.jpg

Deck, gunwales not right.

i looked at a 61 starcraft last year looked just like that same color too but i dont think the bow had that high a rise

Was the Starcraft smooth sided or lapstrake? Every Starcraft I've seen is lapstrake.

Here is a site that I stumbled across this morning while looking for your boat.

I've been looking through the pictures for an hour in amazement at the work these people have done. Way cool.
