So I was sick of the nasty beer/coffee/fishslime filled carpet that was in my boat and decided to go with cabela's vinyl. I bought 24' of this stuff and decided to remove all the carpet. I am pretty close to done and have been using the Robert's 3300 vinyl adhesive. It worked really well on the wood and ok on the aluminum. I decided to use fiberglass resin on the areas that were wrapped on the aluminum. This worked very well. This stuff doesn't budge with the resin. The worst part is removing the old carpet backing and glue. I used goof off which works very well with a terry clothe. Seems to be just enough texture to really scrub this crap off. Overall I am very satisfied with this install. I stripped the entire boat down to the hull and foam. I removed all the sections individually to ensure they were wrapped properly. Here are the pics. I don't ahve the most recent pics taken, but I will snap some this weekend with the most updated progress...

Sorry I cannot get the pics to work. Let me know if you can view them with the link.
Thanks

Those are some clean lines - great job!

How hot does that get when out in the sun? I've looked at vinyl, but never took the plunge to try it

Its really not too hot. I can walk barefoot on it without being uncomfortable.

I fished with it 95% done this weekend and it is really nice without the rod locker. It makes so much room. It is very easy to navigate though out the boat and there is nothing to trip over! I have the full rod locker in anyone is interested, its the sheet metal side panal and the entire top hatch. If anyone's interested feel free to make an offer.

I was looking at the Marideck vinyl in Overtons and Gander Mtn. I believe this is the route I am going to take because my boat lives outside. Carpet would be cheaper to start with, but in the end the vinyl would hold up much better i think.

It is not slick at all when wet. Also it is fairly easy to work with. I have installed the premium carpets before and it was very stiff and difficult to work with. This stuff is great, no frayed ends or stiff spots!

Its been pretty durable so far. I have dropped plyers nose down with no marks. You can't rip it with your hands if you try. I dropped tons of tools while working on this and mo marks were made. I'm deffinitily impressed with the quality.

I decided to use fiberglass resin on the areas that were wrapped on the aluminum. This worked very well. This stuff doesn't budge with the resin.

Are you getting the fiberglass resin to stick to aluminum? Is it epoxy resin? Please explain more about the adhesion to aluminum if you don't mind. I just ripped my boat down to bare hull (had the nice carpet) because of the same reasons you are doing yours. I was going to glass my wood then tuff coat it, but if this is working for you I would be interested in more info. One, I have some aluminum that will need covered and need instruction on how (if you did) get resin to set on the aluminum. Thanks

The fiberglass resin, bought fron an automotive or home improvement store does stick to aluminum. I used to use this stuff for automotive and it stick very very well to aluminum. Just make sure the aluminum is clean. Fiberglass resin will pretty much stick to anything other than abs plastic. It sticks to the vinyl as well because it is felt backed. I picked up about 20-25 clams to assist me in applying the resin. I clamped down the vinyl in place and applied the resin. The resin dries very quickly. It takes about 20-40 mins depending on the amount of hardener used.

I've used fiberglass for patches and on wheel wells of an old truck I had.I know it will last 4 years, truck died after that.Truck is what..steel/tin, not aluminum.
I've heard the flexing in hulls will make the resin seperate, when attached to aluminum?
I know my old truck had some flexing and it never seperated there.
