I have been reading a lot of topics here about painting jon boats, which I will be tackling this coming fall. A couple of years ago I converted my 89 bass tracker pro 17 into a open center console, mainly because my son and I do alot of catfishing in the rivers around home. I removed a lot of weight from the boat by doing this, and now she floats level in less than 8" of water. I have a 40 h.p. johnson on it now, but Im trying to make it through the rest of the fishing season with it, and I'm going to upgrade to a 70 yamaha with a 6" jack plate, beleive it or not it weighs 20 lbs less than the motor I'm running now. I am planning on using 1/8" or less aluminum plate, to replace the wood floors I have in it now, and a painted non-skid surface on all walking surfaces. I'm o.k. on prep work, and spraying, but I am planning a fall camo pattern, with lots of dark colors, and was wondering if you guys could help me with a base coat, and work out from there. I like olive drab, but I don't think thats what I'm looking for on this boat. Any help or suggestions would be apprciated.

Welcome to the site.
Sorry can't help with the paint but I can't see why an olive green wouldn't be a good base coat, colors start to lighten up in the fall and your probably only going to see a bit of it anyways.
Theres a few posts here somewhere on camo painting.

page 2 has some links.

I have one with a mud brown basecoat and one with OD green.

The next time that I do one, it is going to be done like Natgear with a tan/taupe type base like this one. It blends in a lot better with the bank than the dark colors on my current two.

Here is a site with good instructions and they also sell about any color boat paint that you could want. https://lockstockbarrell.com/doc/Painting%20an%20Aluminum-Fiberglass%20%20Boat.doc

I like the base on the pic you added, might try and get it alittle darker though. I wouldn't paint it at all but it was painted before and lets say they didn't take their time. I want to do this one right the first time so thats why I'm planning this far ahead. I will take some pics of it now and get them posted so you guys can see what I'm working with.
