So I have been lurking around here for a few weeks, and I thought it was time to introduce it. This is a 1974 Ouachita 14ft jon, and it came with a 12.5 foot trailer. Last week I picked up a good working 1984 9.8 Mercury. The boat seems to be in pretty poor shape, but the previous owner said it doesn't leak...I think he was stretching the truth. The hull has one pretty good size dent in it, about the size of a softball, and the rest of the bottom is dented up pretty well too. The dimensions on the boat are 14'1" length, 40" width at it's widest poin in the floor, 53" width at the rail, height is 17" at the rear, and 20" at the front. Here are some before pics:

Oh, and i got the boat and trailer with good tags/title for$240, and the motor with new carb, waterpump, and impeller cost me $400!

So far I stripped the trailer down and repainted it, stripped the wheels, repainted them, put new tires on it, and pressure washed the boats exterior. I have purchased wood for the flooring, small decks, and the bunks for the trailer. I also purchased bunk carpet and a gallon of the steelflex product thanks to what I have read on this forum. My plans a re to deck from the rear bench back, and from the front bench forward. I am only doing this for storage really. I don't think the boat will be sturdy enough for a standing deck. I amgoing to deck the floor, just to level it. I am going to add a 30lb trolling motor, transom mount, floor lighting, driving lights, spot lights, 2 swivel seats, and some carpet. I will submit pics as I move along with the process. Take Care!!

Doesn't look bad, just filthy :D not a bad price either. To check for leaks, put it up on blocks and fill it to the water line with water, not all the way, and look for leaking rivets, rebuck the ones that leak and you should be good.

It has been a good while since I have been on the board. I have had a lot of health issues between now and when I got the boat, but I am back and I am gonna get this thing on the water if at all possible in the next 2 months. I just finished wire wheeling the entire hull to bare aluminum, course sanded it, acetone washed it, and finally steelflex coated it. I will get some pics up this week, and I hope to get a little bit of the wood up on the benches/decking.

Put the boat on the trailer today, and I cut out a new transom by tracing out the old one on a sheet of 3/4in ply, and a piece of scrap of quarter inch birch i had. They are currently being glued together right now and they look to be the exact thickness of the old one. Any advise on what to do with this otherwise? i was going to use some of my left over steelflex to coat it. One gallon was more than enough for my hull, so I am going to coat that and do all the rivets from the inside of the boat before I paint it. I will post some picks in a moment.

Here are some pics. Obviously this is some amateur work, but i water tested the ugly hull and it is water tight! the Steelflex was hard to work with, but i wasn't being real careful, and i put it on pretty thick on and around the ribs and rivets. I am going to do some more woodwork tomorrow.

Well here is the current state of the my 14ft utility V. After almost 2 years of setbacks I got it on the water this morning at Medina Lake here outside of San Antonio, TX. The hull didn't leak a drip of water, the lights worked, both motors worked great(gas one was a little slower than expected, btu it got the job done). I loved it though!!!!

I was really suprised that this thing was as stable as it was. I was able to stand and walk around on the back with no problem. infact I fished standing most of the time!

Here are a couple of pics of my other fishing boat. i use it for dropping bait shark fishing off the beaches, and I am going to do a bay fishing tourney in April for red's.

:LOL2: Nice looking kayak. There was a story running around a couple of months ago of a guy in a kayak hooking a decent size marlin and then getting towed for 11 miles! I think I would have cut the line?..but who knows.

Haha, I think I would probably cut it! I paddle out past the breakers(2nd 3rd gut) down in the gulf and fish a little for bait fish for sharks, but I don't fish for big fish out of the yak, just drop bait rigs out past the last sand bar in hopes of catching a huge bull or some black tips. Thanks for the compliment, I wish my jon looked as nice, but it doesn't leak and it goes in a straight line!

I'm digging this build, I want to enclose the front of my V-hull like this and make it a camp boat with big deck for my dog to ride on, with under deck stowage of camping gear and stuff, thanks for the pics
