Hello Gang;
Yesterday, I picked up (for a measly $50.00 \:D/ ) a 14.5' Aluminum Run-About boat called a "Cherokee". Apparently the year is a 1963 with a 45Hp McColloch "Royal Scott" OB motor (boat has the original McColloch controls). Motor (the previous owner says) was partially rebuilt (it's all together in one piece btw & on the boat). The trailer did not come with it. The boat is in pretty solid shape with no major structural damage just typical neglect. My initial plans were to take the Plexiglas windshield off, cut the aluminum bow hood back 18-24" (for more fishing space-reinforce area-natch!) & modify it into a lean, mean fishing machine. However, what I wanted to know is, does anyone know if this boat is a collector's item or a classic/vintage boat? I don't want to be hacking up a boat that may be worth big bucks. If nobody knows, could someone recommend a site that does or is primarily aimed at this kind of stuff? Thanks!
P.S. The boat has not yet been in the water & I've already got passengers-a mother field mouse & her two babies residing in the OB motor cowl (well, not anymore-no I didn't kill them so no need to call out PETA :lol: ).

No need to double post in multiple sections. [-X

Oops! #-o My Bad. Just thought some folks may not participate in both forums is all & I wanted as much input as possible.
I took the other post down. :(

No problem man, but I can guarantee you that 99% of tinboaters scan both forums when the log on. Thats the nice thing about a smaller forum, only a few new posts a day :mrgreen:

Now you've done it :p ! BassBoy says it's no biggie to cut up & modify & now you're saying it's maybe valuable as a potential collectors item. And All I want is a lean, mean fishing Machine at a cheap price. ](*,) I belong to iboats & most of the time I don't get any response whatsoever to my relevant inquires. Btw, I live in GranholmLand (aka the land of the economically lost formerly known as Michigan). Pm me in regards to what kind of deal you had in mind (& what the potential value of the boat MAY be) Thanks..

I have a better idea where you are at, and what you want with the boat now.
(cut it up. It's what you want-a fishing boat, not a run-about.)

Look up some google image searches of Lund Boats. They have a carpeted board that is on top of the gunnells and bow area. You also would want to have a brace underneath tied into the sides of the boat.

I could snap a picture of how it is braced from the factory on my boat.

Do you have any more pictures? Specifically inside the boat? Have you taken the floors out yet?

I personally would NOT cut it up.

I kinda feel the same way about those old "tins" as some do about the older wooden Chris Craft style boats. You wouldn't cut one of those up.

Definatley find out if its worth anything as a collectors item before you start cutting. If its not then cut away.

Holy Old Post Batman!

Ya I know. But he is still working on it, so I thought I would reply to his thread.

:lol: :lol: :lol:
Procrastination & needless distractions are the main culprits here. Well that & looking for employment-which I have now. It's Hard to justify working on a boat instead of looking for work.
As soon as the weather/temperature get's into some semblance of normalcy.. #-o( I.e. stop snowing & temperatures above single digits & into at least the mid-high 20's) I'll first tackle the garage organization & then back to the boat. What's got me stumped is how to do the rear decking without needing a step stool to get up on it. LOL

* Some more "recent" pics.

(this one has got me stumped in regards to rear decking[height] & gas tanks placement. :-k

I'm running behind my schedule this week with the boat, but I should have something by this weekend.
I've spent plenty of time just staring at it. :lol: Which accomplishes nothing, and something all at the same time.

'My' best idea I think is to completely rebuild the splashwell. Reducing it size drastically. Any support lost will be taken account for with the deck frame.
My first order of business though is that transom board and then the splashwell.
Like this.
