Good morning everyone. I am new here, I stumbled across the board after a google search. I have been hunting for a wide bottom jon boat for about three months now. Today I opened up my local classified site and did my usual search, but a new add appeared. I have looked at probrably thirty boats now, and have walked away from all of them. Needless to say I didnt have my hopes up for this one eighter, add says: 18 foot jon boat, flat bottom, very wide, has trailer. I called the guy, and could tell he was very young. I asked him the usual questions, and he made the boat out to be a diamond in the rough. I really didnt want to make the three hour round trip just to be disappointed again, so I asked if he could send me some pictures. I recieved the pictures, and loaded up the truck right away. I showed up an hour and a half later, and was very pleased at what was sitting in front of me. Three hundred dollars changed hands and I drove the boat home. I have been farting around with the boat today, but will post pictures tommorow. My plans are to deck the boat out, and then fish the boat out. I am wanting to paint the boat a flat olive green color, and was wondering if anybody had any pics of their boats painted, and where you got the paint. Please check back in the a.m. for pictures, and I will keep this post updated with progress. Also it is a mon ark brand boat, 18 foot, and very wide.

Welcome. Can't wait to see some pictures of the beast. Do a little searching around and you will find all you ever needed in relation to painting and decking a jon. Good Luck

IF I MISSED ANYONE'S PROJECT PM ME!

So this morning hasnt been going my way. First, I couldnt find the camera. Second, when I found it the batteries were dead, so I had to go buy some. Third, I had to find my cable to hook it to the computer. Last, my hosting site is having some issues. I usually host my pics from a certain website, but they are having issues right now so pics will be up when I come in for my next break. I did some research on the mon ark boats, I have never heard of them until I bought the boat. I think that I will be happy with this boat in the long run.

here are a couple of pics to hold you over until my host site starts working again.

I hope this worked.

Very nice! I tried to get a 18ft monark just a week ago on CL, but the guy screwed me. I guess its not all bad, cause it keeps me in the market for a 16 footer that doesnt need modding (which keeps me out of the cold-*** garage all winter)

Have any sketches of what youre going to do to it?

I have some drawings, that I am going to put on the computer. I am just going to put a front casting deck from the front to the middle bench. Arear driving stand to the back bench, both decks will be about 2-3 inches below the top rail. The boat will get a poling platform, and a tiller drive motor. This thing is going to be a fishing machine and nothing else. I love the tin boats, and have always wanted to make one a flats boat. I usually buy wrecked motorcycles, fix them, and sell them. So this one will just be another project to me. I have been eyeing a couple of new tiller motors, but think that I might buy a good used one. Any ideas for a motor?

Welcome to the site.
Nice looing boat and trailer,$300 seems like a steal to me,nice find.

Really like the Mon Ark boat - you'll like it too I bet. Congrats on the purchase, get those sketches up if you can, we love that stuff around here, lol.

Welcome to the site. There are a lot of good folks on here that will help with information. I have learned a lot in a short time, but still have a ways to go.

I just got my boat as well but am going to enjoy it till it turns cold, then I am going to start doing my mods...

Just to keep everybody updated.

I am still working on the boat. I only get about an hour a day to work on it. I have a wife and five daughters that take all of my time. I have purchased the paint, and self etching primer. I have started to remove the wood from the transom, and have been working on the lights for the trailer. I should if all goes well, have the new wood put in the transom this weekend.I have some pics but I have to leave for work. I will post pics tommorow.
