Value for 9.8 mercury

I have posted previously on the boat section and am curious if anyone can give me a rough idea of what a 1981 Mercury 9.8 with electric start is worth. It is a long shaft and I cannot use it on my boat. I want to sell it or trade for a similar sized short shaft motor. I just want to be fair but don't want to get ripped either. There are a number of motors for sale in my area and they take outboard trades. Thanks

Find someone with a sailboat who needs a kicker & you could probably get $400 for it down here on the coast.

You will be lucky to get 400 for it. starter motors are nolonger available for th 9.8 as are some other parts. The longer shaft really limits who will buy it.

I ended up getting $150 for it from a guy who needed it for parts. Just glad to have it out of my garage.
