The other day when I was out on the water my outboard started acting up and the gears just werent shifting right.. id go from neutral into forward and it would sputter for a minute and jerk into foward in an unatural way.. I have no idea why just started acting up.. I am wondering whats wrong with it.. or if anyone could tell me the best way to make adjustments

I am hoping you guys are wrong cause I just replaced the lower unit a month ago with a new impeller and put in fresh oil! How do I check?

You would have to take it apart and look at the gears. Could be that some of the gears are stripped. The impeller wouldn't have anything to do with it.

If you recently dropped the LU and now it's acting up I would drop it again and see if you didn't tighten some thing up correctly.
