I have a 1977 Johnson 15 hp short shaft motor, first time running the motor hit a low spot in the river and stopped the motor, now you cant pull to start it and its stuck in gear but you can spin the prop roughly.... any info on this problem ????

Sounds like you sheared the shear pin. Pull the prop off and clear out the shear pin debris, then see if you can rotate the drives shaft and take it out of gear, once out of gear you should be able to pull strat it again. Dont run it out of the water. Once you get that all free'd up again, install a new shear pin.
I think you managed to tear something up inside the gearcase, since you can't turn the powerhead. Take it apart and see what you are looking at, but looking for a used gearcase probably will turn out being your best bet.
