Does anyone here have this motor? Just wondering how the reliability of it is. I have the opportunity to buy one that is brand new, I'm guessing a 2010 model, for around $1700-$1800 from work (Cabela's). It's "used", the customer bought it didn't want it and returned it, so it's never been used. Is that a good price for the motor? I know the normal price is around $2800 up there, but Cabela's tends to overprice everything. I would be putting this on my 1436 jon boat. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this one and can speak to the quality of them. It would be the first outboard that I have owned. Thanks to any input you have!

If you are sure the motor has not been jacked with and is whole and it still holds its warranty. I say you are looking at a good deal!

Personally, I am a Evinrude/Johnson man, but Mercury is a very good and reliable brand of outboard. Outboards are only as good as people treat them and take care of them. Neglect them and don't do servicing and maintenance and not use the correct oil to fuel ratio per manufacture requirements then yes, they it will be junk, no matter what make you buy. Again, Mercury is a good reliable brand of outboard.

Good luck if you decide to buy and remember to learn the state laws regarding boating and safety. Good idea to take boater's safety course. Very good for first time boat owners.

Yeah, it's for sure never been used. The guy bought it, decided he didn't want it and returned in, everything is brand new. They just can't sell it as new because it has been bought and returned. As a result, it gets marked down to around cost, then my discount takes it down another 20%. I'm leaning toward buying it.

And I'm not a first time boater, just the first boat that I myself will be owning and maintaining. Thanks for the insight.

if it has never been in water, and still comes with manufacturer's full warranty, it's a VERY good buy for sure!
Grab it!
