tuning a 7.5hp Mercury

Hello,

I have a 7.5 hp Mercury outboard on my boat that has some problems. It starts on the second pull and its top end RMP is great. It is the mid-level RPM that hesitates. At idle, if I give it full power, there is a significant hesitation before it begins to accelerate up. If I ease the throttle up very slowly, it will accelerate smoothly.

Any ideas about tuning this machine so it will not hesitate? I am new to working on these motors.

Sounds to me like the idle circuit is on the lean side.There should be a adjustment screw on the carb.
