I'm looking for a decent used outboard (15-20HP) to push my 1440 Polarkraft. My 1998 8HP Evinrude is a strong runner, but I would like some more juice. Found a 1983 18HP Mercury for $450 and wanted a general opinion from the tinboat community before making a decision. So please, share some knowledge.

For me its a little on the high side, but I always find good deals.If it has good compression, lower in working order & looks overall in good shape it might not be too bad of price.

I've been hunting for a reasonable 15 hp for a month now,here in Arizona.Cheapest so far has been a 1986 Johnson for $525.Still looking.I think that $500 is the going price,at least if you had $500 in your hand you could definantly get a motor.
