I bought a '92 merc 9.9, short shaft. I also downloaded a service manual for $7.95. The manual has all the info I need, except, how often to change the thermostat? Is there a certain number of hours, yearly ???

I would think waiting until the "peeing" stops is not acceptable.

Thanks

I have the service and owners manuals, neither says when to replace it. The service manual did describe how to check it with hot water and a string inserted into the t-stat. I would rather spend $20 for a new one than take the time to test it and replace the gaskets.

This motor is new to me so I will have a list of what has been done this year for future reference. Hopefully I will use this motor many years without any trouble. :)

I changed my tstat only because I had the cylinder head off to replace the head gasket. I changed the water pump as well so I don't expect any cooling problems with this motor. :LOL2:

Congrats on your new motor. Enjoy!
