I tried to change my foot oil thsi weekend but the screw will not loosen. I didnt want to strip the screw, but even with the biggest screwdriver it would slip. I used some wd-40 and other lubricants to help get it off but nothing worked. Anybody have some ideas before I take it to my motor guy?

Impact screwdriver

Awesome. I'll give that a try. I'll take a picture of the screw too so y'all can look at it and make sure it isnt stripped. I could always deepen the grove in it couldnt I?

Impact screwdriver will get it out fairly easy.
I don't have one so I use a ground down chisel that fits snugly in the slot and then attach a pair of vice grips near the handle to make it easy to turn. It usually removes them pretty easily.

I wouldn't bother trying to make the groove deeper. If you use the proper tools then it will come out easily. You can buy a new screw at any boat repair shop for a couple bucks.

I already have a screw and gasket in the way, I'll get that impact wrench on it this weekend. I hope it isnt cross threaded or anything like that.

This.

Don't know anything about the quality of the Harbor Freight one, but the impact screwdriver in general is the absolute way to go.

Thanks Dawson - how is school going this year?

I bought a really big screwdriver with a square shaft. I locked the motor down, attached the screwdriver to the slot, and put a crescent wrench on the shaft of the screwdriver. I had plenty of torque and it broke loose easily.

I have to agree impact screwdriver is the way to go. I had the same problem this winter and got mine out with my impact screwdriver pretty easily.
