I dug out My 1957 fleetwin and discovered the pressure tank died so I am thinking on doing the modification for a modern tank can anyone think of any negatives to this?

Would be cheaper to resurrect the pressure tank. All you need is a diaphragm and new gasket which are both still available. You can purchase plastic washers for the screws. The dual line tank works just as well as a fuel pump any day of the week and overall is probably more reliable when used with todays fuels.

After removing the pump from the tank I want to rebuild despite people calling them unexploded bombs. This Motor was My Dads and we rebuilt it just before He died so I would like to keep it all original.

Hey buddy,

Here is an ebay seller that sells the parts you need to rebuild your pressure tank. He sells it as a kit or individuals parts. He is an honest fellow, I have bought from him in the past and his products are reasonably priced. If your interested here is his link.

Here is a link to electronic parts diagram for your motor. (Also there is a breakdown of your dual hose tank!!)

Here is some useful information regarding pressure tanks. I hope your is similar. (sealer 1000 is no longer made and I believed has been replaced by 3M 847 Scotch-Weld Nitrile High Performance Rubber And Gasket Adhesive This stuff is also excellent for sealing Johnson/Evinrude lower unit gear cases along with the spaghetti seal.

Thank you kindly for those useful links I will be using them on payday :D but before I rebuild it I want to paint the tank with red epoxy paint.

Good idea! And after you paint it you can go back to Ebay and look up Evinrude or Johnson tank decals and match what is on your tank. I have done several tanks this way for cheap! Usually you can find the decals for less than $10 shipped to your door.

I got a better look inside the tank and there is a good deal of rust so it will go into the shop for a gas tank renewal.

If you can clean the tank up pretty good, I have been told that if you take the tank to motorcycle shop you can get the inside creamed and sealed to prevent future rusting. Just a thought! Or you may be able to cream and seal the tank yourself. Sorry hear it rusted :(

Over in AOMCI.org there are a couple threads outlining how to remove rust using a battery charger. You may want to go over there and do a search in the ask a mamber section. Have heard it is very simple and very effective. Edit - I went back and found it for you.View attachment electrolysis.pdf

I finally got time to do the rust repair stuff looks good so far it has to set for four days.
