Convert to tiller steer?

I have an early 70's Evinrude 40 hp that I would like to change to tiller steer is that possible.

Yes, it is. In your case it would be better to source a donor engine and get the parts from it. New parts would be a fortune and some are probably not available anymore.

Piece of cake to do... Contact these folks with your model number and they will send you what you need....or look on ebay.... I did this to a '72 jonny 40hp. I used a early 60's tiller handle I picked up off e-bay...Bolted right up....

Well I went to an old boat yard today and found just what I needed, but the owner was very rude kept saying that a 40hp was to much motor for a tiller. He pretty much just turned around and walked off leaving me standing there while I was still talking. Not like I was asking him to part out a good motor, it was just laying on the ground with alot of other motors that where torn apart in weeds waist hight. go figure. Well at least I know what to look for now.
