trying to find info on my 1987 evinrude

E40TELCUD mod#

For some reason when I search the D is not there or the L is not there

Found a chart on it the "d" is just the modle run

E=Evinrude
40= 40hp
TE= Tiller Electric
L= Long shaft
CU - 1987



The knob on the end of the throttle screws in and out but doesnt lock
the throttle in place to hold a speed. Looking for info on how to repair
it or replace the part that needs to be.

There are also no markings on the grip as far as start, run if there ever
were. Im new to outboards owning a mud motor for the past 16 years
only.

The knob on the end of the handle is for adjust ing the idle RPM only. There were never any markings for start, run, etc. on that engine.

So how does that work if i may ask. should you leave it all the way in or out?

You want to adjust it so the engine is idling as slow as possible without stalling during shifts. Think of it as an adjustable idle throttle stop.
