Hi guys i have seen alot of people talk about long shaft and short.
I'm new at this boat owner I would like to know what short and long shaft mean.
Can any one tell me? how to find out what i got.
If i have one or the other will fit on my boat?
Not sure how to tell do i have to flush it or what?

The first thing you need to do is measure your transom to determine what outboard's size of shaft is needed for your boat.
- a short shaft 15" will fit a aft transom of 15"-17"
- a long shaft 20" will fit a aft transom of 18"-21"
- a extra long shaft 25" will fit a aft transom 22"-27"
Check out https://www.smalloutboards.com/shaft.htm for detailed photo and more info on Long Shaft, Extra Long Shaft, and Short Shaft Outboard Motors.

That's correct the transom is the back of your boat, you can measure the center of the back(where you plan to mount your motor)
of your boat from the top to the bottom.
