I have a 7.5 Mercury outboard, around a 1980 model.
I had a guy come out and check the compression, etc, and he said it would work fine.
I've been focusing on restoring the boat, so I didn't pay much attention to the motor.
I finally got to the motor today, hooked it to a 55 gallon drum with water, and fired it up.
It did start and runs well.
This may be the first time it has run for many years.
My question is that I used a 50:1 mix, and I did notice some smoke...not excessive, but perhaps a little rich.
I'm just wondering if this is to be expected for a motor that hasn't been running for a few years, or if maybe 50:1 is incorrect?
Maybe I'm just noticing the smoke more because it's in a drum and not out in the open.
Does 50:1 sound right?

Overall, I'm just glad that it runs good. :)

Every two stroke I've ever owned has smoked some. Its just the nature of the beast. Can't beat the smell of a two stroke in the morning!
