The drive shaft in my 18 hp evinrude has some wear on it where the Impeller seal goes, and I'm not certain, but from what I've been reading it might be a good idea to get it repaired. My question is: Should I have a Machine Shop do it and know it's done right, or should I try and put a sleeve on it?.
If a Machine Shop is the way to go, any ideas as to what the cost might be? The thing that worries me about the Speedi Sleeve is that they say not to put on over splines as it could take the shape of the splines, and the other thing that worries me about it is that the shaft is worn on both sides of where the Impeller pin goes, so how would I ever know where to drill the hole after covering it?
