I intend to buy a new propellor for my Johnson 60hp (1992) because my current prop does not have enough pitch. I was considering buying a SS prop, but was told the gearcases on 40-60 horse motors cannot handle the impact of hitting something and will tear stuff up. Should I save my money and buy a regular prop? I want to go as fast as possible because I make long runs, but I do idle around in less than three feet of water often.

Guys with bass boats claim they get a few extra mph out of a stainless prop on their 150-250 hp motors. So if their getting a 3 mph gain then you would probably get a 1 mph gain from your 60hp motor.
I have busted plenty of aluminum props from hitting rocks and haven't ruined a lower unit yet. I don't know if I would have been so lucky with a SS prop.

I put a stainless in after my aluminum prop broke and left me stranded. (I hit something.)
