Can anyone tell me the difference in pre 1979 and post 1979 cables? I have a 1975 9.9 Evinrude on my boat now and may want to up grade to a 25 sometime in the future. Is there a big difference? I'd like to be able to switch the motors back and forth. Thanks Todd

Pre-1979 cables came with the cable core and a replaceable end. You had/have set screws that locked the cable core to the end. There is also a minor difference in diameter and length of the cable trunnion (the part you grab onto and adjust) as well as the trunnion anchor. The replacement cables were called "Snap-In cables" and were complete when purchased and you simply measured and purchased the correct length. The good news is that parts are still available for the old style cables and the old style will work with your new engine or vice versa with the new style anchors.
