Back when I got this motor, I saw one of the bolts holding the lower unit on was missing. When I got a replacement, I realized the head was broken off the other bolt (not missing). I didn't think too much about it since the lower unit was still solid on there.

Fast forward to today. I had noticed that it was hard to shift from forward back to neutral last time I was on the water. I just looked at the motor and see this big crack on the motor shaft. Upon closer inspection, there were only 2 bolts holding the lower unit on (the one by where it is cracked and the one on the top front of the lower). The other two apparently backed themselves out, putting all the pressure basically on one bolt.

When I went to put a replacement in one of the holes just now, it stripped the hole out.

How should I go about geting the crack fixed? Find a welder?

Also, how can I get the stripped hole rethreaded?

Thanks for any help,

A landlocked boater....
