Hey guys. Im not suer what its called, so I'm gonna go with mid ship steer (were there is a steering wheel). Is it possible to turn a 'id ship steer' into a tiller? I have never owned an outboard, so i have no idea what I'm doing. Could i do it? Is it expensive? Is it possible? There is a lot of people making their tiller into a remote throttle but i can't find ANYTHING about this. Thanks.

Depends on what the motor is and how much the parts are. It can be done. You either need a donor motor with a tiller handle or get a handle off ebay. Its not that much work but it is more work I believe than the remote convertion. It can be expensive also.

My outboard originally came as a standard outboard with a remote shifter. It was then converted to a tiller and that is how I bought it. Now I am going to convert it back. It can be done, depending on the model and availability of parts. Good luck.

You can put a tiller on most things. I'm not sure what you have, but when I was in school I found this pretty interesting:

Care to put a tiller on that Mercury 250hp? I bet that would be a fun ride!!!

That is a pretty sweet setup.....

The really big tillers have a power steering system. You can steer them with a couple fingers, even with 200hp, and full throttle.

Here you go. 2:20 in....Another neat thing about the hydraulic steering is the fact it hydraulically locks in place.

Yeah those things are crazy! I love the tiller handles and ive seen a 225 hp with a tiller! It was an animal!

I would love to have a huge tiller
