I have a 1971 25hp Johnson that I was given. The bracket that locks the motor in the down position is broken and I have to be careful about letting off the throttle suddenly and I have to hold the motor down when in reverse. I have rigged up a few ways to lock it down but I am looking for a replacement bracket. Does anybody know a website I can buy one or would it be hard/expensive to find one? Does anyone have any other ideas?

I am new to this site and just have to say it is awsome and I have learned alot reading from everyones posts. Great projects also!

Thanks everyone,

Josh

First of all, welcome to the forum/site:

Here is a parts diagram and link to online parts store for your motor.

There are outboard motor salvage yards that you could get the part cheaper than online store. Here is the information to an individual that I have purchase stuff from. He is honest and helpful. I have had good dealings with him and the parts are always in good order.

New and used OMC parts only, large selection of 1.5 to 35 hp lower units, power heads,
5 " extension kits , complete starter setup for 15-35 hp, Alumina and SS props.
