Hey guys just a quick question. My motor, Merc 9.8 has been sitting a few years and not run. It was serviced before I got it (my dad or grandfather took it to a shop if I remember right) We didn't have a boat to use it on so it sat.

Is there some thinks I should check before firing it up? I know the water pump was changed so it should be good.

Also what mix ratio for the motor....

And is there a way to tell what year it is?

Thanks
Jason

Here, click this link and you should be able to find out the year of your motor.

Good luck

I bought a boat that had two motors on it (18hp and a 4hp Johnsons) that sat outside for 20 years! I checked for lower unit gear lube and to my surprise they both fired up and pumped water!

Good luck!

Thanks guys I'll check it out. It has been stored inside and was serviced just before. I'll check it over a little before firing it up.

I just looked up the Year....Looks like a 1972 should do nicely on my Sea Nymph. :D
