Does anyone know where I can get a switch[ the one between the stator and coils] for a reasonable price. the one on here now has some insulation on the wires that has gotten hard and is cracking off. My locale merc dealer quoted about 275.00 for one if they can find it .Seems awful high to me but I really don't know. Any thoughts on this or advice would be a big help.

Are you sure you're using the correct terminology for the part. I doubt that a plain switch would cost that much. Maybe it's the switch box/cdi unit? If that's the case, can the wires be repaired/replaced? If it's a switch box, you can watch ebay for a used one or get an aftermarket version on ebay for less. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercury-outboard-2-cylinder-Switch-box-4-7-5-9-8-20-/330684113798?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item4cfe4f2386&vxp=mtr

Sorry I didn't get that more clear. But yes it is the switch box. I don't really under stand the function if someone could explain it that would help me out. For now I plan to replace the bad sections of wire. but I'm leary of any thing that can go wrong. Ya know Murphy's Law. Thanks

In a nut shell, the CDI/Switch box, controls when the sparks plugs fire. If you would like to better understand what you're buying, here's a writeup on different types of ignition systems.

Thanks J that info sure helped me understand what I'm dealing with. The price on that ebay site you sent was quite a savings . I'm going to replace parts of the wires that are cracked and shrink wrap them to start with then go from there. Thanks alot
