I've been thinking out upgrading from a 5 hp motor and found a pretty good deal on a 2006 nissan 9.8 motor. I've never used one and don't know anyone who has, just wondering if anyone has any experience with them and what yall think about them?

You'll be fine. The small Nissan's and Mercury's are both made by Tohatsu.

I owned one of those, its a great motor. aghudson is right, about them too, it is good equipment.
I never had any problem from mine, it cranked on the first pull as long as I owned it. When I first bought it I had to clean out the carbs as it had sit for a couple years, but it was a great motor and I would own one again without hesitation.

Lot of the people around here run the 9.9 Mercury (as said it is just a black Tohatsu) and they love them, the only problem anyone seems to have is letting them set around too long and the gas goes bad then the carb has to be redone.
