1973 evinrude 25 hp problems again.

Was going fishing on the river amd my motor overheated and shut off. I tried to restart it but it was locked up tight. About 2 hours later i got back to the ramp after fishing and the motor would turn over just fine. Well today i cracked it open and pistons amd cylinders look fine. I will be replacing the water pump. What else should i look at or what else could i have damaged?

Are you sure it overheated? Was water coming out of the telltale still when it shut down? Check thermostat also.

I had a motor lock up before but it was because I had to much fuel pooring into the crank case due to a carburetor gasket failure. After awhile the vapor lock will go away and the motor will turn over again. Or you can pull the plugs to relieve the pressure in the cylinders. Check to see if you are dumping to much fuel into the crank case.

I do i check that out? The motor was way to hot to touch when it happened.
