30hp evinrude fuel pump help

I need help with an evinrude fuel pump. Motor is evinrude model E30ECDM. I believe it is a 1986 evinrude. I was going to rebuild the fuel pump and ordered what I was told was the correct one. fuel pump kit 18-7820 replaces 393103 it was not the right one, I then ordered another one, that was supposed to be correct, 18-7821 replaces 398514 it was not the correct one. The one that was on my motor has a small metal cup fastened to the diaphram, neither of the ones I bought have the metal cup attached. I will try to attach a picture of the one that came off the motor. I may be better off ordering the complete pump rather than a kit, but I am not sure which pump to order, as the rebuild kits I was told to order, did not match the one on my motor.

Why don't you do the very simple thing.............go to an authorized Johnson/Evinrude dealer and hand them your model number and ask for a kit for your pump. Always a crap shoot when you go to Napa or others and get a "will-fit" kit. Nice to do business locally as well, this way when you need your local dealer he may still be in business for you!

Ok first off you bought the wrong kit The correct kit number for an 86' 30hp is 395867 and the replacement number is 398514 for the outfits that don't have 395867 anymore.

The repair kit you bought is only for these models https://www.boats.net/parts/detail/johnson/B-0393103.html So you need to get the correct repair kit if that is the route you wish to take. I will advise to NOT buy Sierra, get the OEM parts always. The extra couple bucks is well worth it trust me.

I would rebuild it as long as the metal fitting, screen and the rest of the pump looks good.

Thanks for the replies. Pappy, there is no dealer for 100 miles. Johny25, I bought the 398514 replacement kit, it was not the same as the original, the original has the metal cup attached to the diaphram as seen in my attached picture,

Rebuild kits do not come with the metal cap or fuel pump housing. All they have is the internals of the pump

Johny25 the metal cup is attached to the diaphram as shown in the picture. The rebuild kit that is supposed to be for this pump does not have the small metal cup attached.

just pull off the metal cap.

If you pull off the metal cup it will destroy the diaphram. The metal cup as shown in the picture is part of the diaphram on the original pump, the rebuild kits I ordered did not. I will probably order a new pump.
