Mercury 9.9hp Modifications?

I have a Mercury outboard motor (tiller) I beleive it's a 9.9HP motor, the serial number is 5145196 so I think it was made 5/1/1996. Anyway I had heard that this motor can be upgraded to be 15HP. I want to know if this is true, and if so how do I go about doing that.

Based on the 75 stickers on your motor I'd say you have a 7.5 horse power motor there.

Post the serial numbers & somebody can let you know what year it is.

Its a 1978 7.5 hp.

Here is the serial number, I couldn't find any good sites to properly see what year and HP it was. Thanks for the help guys. Is it possible to mod this motor to add horse power?

Its a 1978 7.5 hp.

ok sweet thanks, do you know anything about the mod question? Just trying to get more power out of it to push my boat mod through the water a little better, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
