So my manual says the plugs I need are Champion QL77JC4 and that's what is currently in my motor (1979 15HP Evinrude).

Boats.net says my motor can take 2 completely different plugs (reason I'm asking):

Oreilly auto parts when I search for QL77JC4 brings up 3 different 828 plugs instead.

And lastly...
This site has QL77JC4 listed with 828M

Is QL77JC4 the same as 828M?

Stick with the champion QL77JC4 like the manual says. That 828M looks like a surface gap plug, meaning it does not have the side electrode for the spark to jump to. Instead the the spark plug casing is the electrode. I have heard that surface gap plugs work best on motors that are run at WOT a lot and the regular plugs with the side electrode work better for trolling. I would not advise putting ac delcos in it. I have run NGKs in my OMC's before without any issues but I would stick with the champion plugs that your manual recommends.

Oh and the L78V are surface gap plugs also I believe
